To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Japan Sumo Association (Chairman: Hakkaku Nobuyoshi, Sumida-ku, Tokyo), a public interest incorporated foundation with which we have a sustainability partner agreement, in December 2025, we will be releasing a limited-edition collaborative product, "Josen One Cup 180ml (Grand Sumo Label)," from Monday, March 3, 2025.

Our company's history with sumo wrestling

In 1884 (Meiji 17), the company moved from "Manryo," which had a strong image of sake mainly produced in Edo, to "Ozeki," the highest rank in sumo wrestling at the time, as its main brand, reflecting its desire to develop new markets. The name "Ozeki" is a continuation of the name "Ozeki," which sounds similar to "great performance" and also means "champion," and was the highest rank in sumo wrestling at the time. Later, in 1900 (Meiji 33), the winning sumo wrestler was presented with a bottle of "Ozeki" sake as a prize. Since 1958 (Showa 33), the company has shared a history of over 130 years, presenting the winning sumo wrestler with the "Ozeki Cup (silver cup)," a certificate of commendation, a prize, and sake as well.
In 2023, we signed a sustainability partnership agreement as part of the Japan Sumo Association's "Sumo Sustainability" initiative, which aims to leverage lessons learned from the 1500-year history of sumo to co-create a better future with partner companies.

The design, which includes purifying salt, dust, and the serious expressions of the wrestlers, evokes the intensity of the matches, one of the attractions of sumo. The back of the label describes the history of our company and sumo.
